Public bug reported:

using xrdp end tightvnc, I could log in into a flashback session from other
computers.
However, the menus were not shown.

I found in internet that my .xsession should include setting
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP.
By default, this is still set to GNOME.

I checked the config files, and this is kind of as expected ,as the desktop
configuration files use non-standard entries:
https://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apb.html
versis
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gnome-session-flashback:gnome-flashback-services.desktop:OnlyShowIn=GNOME-Flashback;

Thus, my ~/.xession now reads:

export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME-Flashback:GNOME
gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback-metacity --disable-acceleration-check

Can setting XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP not be done in one of the session setup scripts
?
And could it be explained more clearly in the documentation of the package ?

another forum suggested the line below, which I did not test.
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP="GNOME-Flashback:Unity"
