Public bug reported:

When I choose to use the Nvdia-340.104 driver, I can not login from the
GDM screen.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to "Software and Updates > Additional Drivers", choose NVDIA Corporation: 
G86M [Quadro NVS 140M] - Use NVDIA binary driver version 340.104, apply.
2. Reboot.
3. Type in the correct password to login.

Expected Result:
Login should be successful.

Current Result:
Message says the password is incorrect.

Additional Info:
If I hit Ctrl+Alt+F3 to open a terminal and login from there, the login is 
successful. Also, The login is successful when I am using the 
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau opensource driver.
