Upon further investigation, i attempted using the web interface to administer CUPS.
After selecting the port to add, it gives a list of drivers for the iP4000. There are three to choose from: 1. Canon iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 (en) 2. Canon iP4000 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.0 (en) 3. Canon iP4000 Foomatic/gutenprint (recommended) (en) There is no mistake, the first two are identical, i got the same results after trying them - they both added the printer and printed test pages flawlessly. However, upon attempting to add the printer with the #3 driver, the web interface returns with Unable to copy PPD file! This appears to be a problem with a file missing. Adding the printer though the gnome-cups-manager interface works perfectly when using one of the first two drivers, so-called "High Quality Image (Gutenprint) (en)" in the dropdown, however, the "gutenprint (recommended) (Suggested)" driver does not work and returns the 1280 error. If the (recommended) driver is old/missing/misnamed, would that be the source of this bug? -- Unable to add printer in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/61034 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
