Correction: this is a printer driver issue. Gutsy's printer database is loaded with two printer driver options for the HP Business Inkjet 2300. The postscript option (PS v3010.107), which is the "recommended" option, fails to consistently perform, as defined in my previous entry. In addition, the postscript driver will not necessarily work after shutting down or restarting the computer, whether the printer is left on or off during system startup. The alternative driver, the "Foomatic/hpijs" does seem to consistently work without problem. Please note that last night I tried to install the latest driver from HP that is compatible with both Gutsy and my printer, but at some point the printer installation routine hung. I subsequently canceled it and moved on.
