Andreas,

When I try apt-get remove exim4, or apt-get autoremove or apt-get purge I
get:

                                                    Errors were encountered
while processing:
 exim4-config
 exim4-base
 exim4-daemon-light
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I thought I would try Synaptic but got error:
Unable to install Synaptic Package Manager
Error while installing package.Installed exim4-config package
post-installation subprocess returned error exit status 1
