Hm, after checking out the links Daniels provided, I am wondering if this is not a duplicate or a different manifestation of bug #1774957... I think I will not open a new upstream bug but will sign up to the existing one: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/140
