Tried scim, scim-bridge, xim too on locale de_DE.UTF-8: works with KDE applications, firefox, et cetera, but it does NOT work with OpenOffice.org 2.3. Using en_US.UTF-8 as the locale is not possible.
@Rolf: while this might not be critical, a non-working input method for people who have to write Chinese documents using OpenOffice is surely a problem.
