Dear Paul, Thanks for your reply. Below a description of how I perceived what I think is a bug in Synaptic package manager:
1. Open Synaptic and highlight any package (for instance, 0ad) 2. Go to Package menu and open it and note that Force Version (Ctrl + E) is not at the user's disposal (right below Lock Version and Automatically installed). As simple as that; I have had no problems with apt, which happens to be my preferred method of getting updates and upgrades.
