You mention BIOS, but you have filed this bug report against shim which
is a UEFI bootloader. Is your system running UEFI? How does your boot
menu look? Can you post the output of 'efibootmgr -v' when booted from
the live CD?
You can also run 'apport-collect 1788781' when booted from the liveCD.
