Hi,

I’m unsure of what you mean - this is an issue with installing
Virtualbox through apt on a host machine - not an issue with guest
addons inside VMs.

Unless I misunderstand completely, it’s also not a kernel failure: a
function in the kernel was removed as part of an API change between
kernel versions.

I reported this as a bug because users of recent stable kernels will not
be able to install Virtualbox through apt and presumably Ubuntu itself
will move to one such kernel sometime in the future.
