> The vast majority of Ubuntu users in the desktop have directories
named similar to "Video", "Pictures", "Documents", "Downloads", "Music",
etc there, which means that in fact this is a common practice, and a
very well established one at that. Claiming otherwise, and repeatedly
so, washes out the better arguments.
Those directories can be customized. They can be renamed, moved or
deleted completely. In order to do so you need to edit ${HOME}/.config
/user-dirs.dirs .
For example, mine looks like this right now:
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Downloads"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Data"
I removed the unnecessary directories and renamed one to better reflect
the type of files I am storing in them. I wish snapd would offer a
similar way to configure the snap directory location.
I am happy the developers have responded to the concerns in this thread
and I hope this issue will be fixed once the feature we are waiting for
is completed.
