Hi everybody,

I have a VIA Epia board (EX10000EG) and a pretty new Western Digital 1
Terabyte WD10EACS drive. I am running Ubuntu 7.04, but I also tested
with 7.10. No laptop mode, no fiddling with ACPI, just standard setup.
Harddrive ACPI is disabled in BIOS. Nevertheless, can hear the drive
load/unload every few seconds, my load cycle count is 5678 after 86
hours. The commonly mentioned fix "hdparm -B 254 /dev/hda" gives me

/dev/hda:
setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xFE (254)
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD failed: Input/output error

Can anyone comment on this latter issue or on the fact that I see this
problem not on a laptop but on a desktop machine?

Best regards
Chrischan
