Symptoms are exactly as original poster describes, except that it does not resolve itself in -2-5 minutes. I must restart the application. Selecting File/Quit does not shutdown the application though. The window becomes gray and remains that way indefinitely. I've let it sit for 30-40 minutes. I use 'PS aux|grep "evolution"" to locate still running applications and kill them one at a time until the window closes. Then restart the application. All works fine until the situation repeats.
