So, I've decided to check the new firmware. I installed Windows 10
(wiping out my Ubuntu install in the process), installed Lenovo Vantage
and installed all firmware updates that it allowed me to, including
touchpad and trackpoint firmware.

Then I installed fresh new Ubuntu 18.04.1. One good thing is that the
installer allowed me to use touchpad and trackpoint properly (they did
not work the last time I was running the installer, had to use external
mouse).

Unfortunately, longer suspend (like through the night) still kills
touchpad and/or trackpoint. And even the "none"/"reconnect" trick doe
snot bring them back, neither does rmmod and modprobe on psmouse (module
(which used to be a working solution at some point when S3 did not
work).
