I tried to upgrade the HWE stack but it failed. I used:
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04
xserver-xorg-hwe-18.04
It failed with:
Setting up linux-headers-4.18.0-15-generic (4.18.0-15.16~18.04.1) ...
/etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms:
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.18.0-15-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/spl/0.7.5/build/make.log for more information.
I remember that zfs and spl 0.7.9 were used with Linux 4.18 in Ubuntu
18.10 and that has been my main reason to do this upgrade, keep my zfs
releases up-to-date.
