Thanks everybody for all this precious details. It is now clear that this bug is not AMD64 specific. It seems that a lot of people does have this bug with ATI proprietary drivers, but also sometimes nvidia. Since this only happens when Compiz enabled, I ask myself if this is a Gnucash or a Compiz bug. I think that we need more information on this.
