A slight improvement on this is to be found upstream (though not merged at time 
of writing):
https://github.com/lxqt/libfm-qt/pull/419

This allows one to scroll one row (or column for compact view) at a time
by holding down Shift while you scroll, essentially overriding the
behavior of LXQt's global setting. This obviously doesn't help if you
have defined "1 line" in that global setting, but otherwise, should make
a bit more sense.
