Hello, Thanks for getting in touch regards the reported bug. Yes the bug is still present. I Have checked my memory, no problems on memtest or my Debian4.0 or win XP systems on this box. This is definately not a thermal problem my box runs very cool. This is a complete lock up, I can't open virtual terminal or kill x with ctrl alt backspace. I have all the latest updates installed.
The problem seems to be related to the nvidia-glx-new driver & running duel core AMD processors. If I switch from the generic kernel to the i386 Kernel and run on a single CPU core, I do not experience any lock ups. I have been running for 2 weeks with no probs. This is running with compiz effects turned on. When running the generic or RT kernel the system seems a little more stable if I turn off compiz, but I still experience crashes. I can always cause the system to hang by running firefox & google earth at the same time. There are a lot of people reporting similar issues on the following thread on ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=587905 On this thread people are reporting fixing the problem using the ENVY script to install the latest Nvidia driver. Apparently there is a fix in the latest driver for stability problems on duel core systems. I have not tried this yet. I hope the above info is of use, Many thanks & best regards jim On Fri, 2007-11-23 at 13:10 +0000, exactt wrote: > does the problem still exist? > > does it completely hand? can you switch to a virtual console using > ctrl+alt+f1? > > hav you checked your memory? > > have you checked over heating problems? try installing boinc and heat up > your CPU a bit ;-) > -- System Completely hangs on memory intensive tasks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
