I'm a little confused now as my "n1644" installation doesn't have the
snapd snap installed:

This is an installation that was upgraded from 19.10 to 20.04 as long
ago as last November. As far as I can recall I've only ever seen the
snapd snap installed on much newer installations on other machines but
never on this one, i.e. "n1644". I've not seen the timeout on any of
those other installations.
