Public bug reported: Greetings,
While installing Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (I'm pretty sure that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has the same bug), I chose kr104 i.e. "Korean (101/104 key compatible)" as my keyboard. However, on my Gnome desktop environment, it uses kr106 "Korean" as my keyboard. kr106 "Korean" and kr104 "Korean (101/104 key compatible)" are two different keyboards. This causes a problem for some applications like Google Chrome because it does not accept ALT_R as a Korean/English toggle key. I've found that /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/kr has "Korean" as the default keyboard layout. In order to solve the problem, I just edit the file to make "Korean (101/104 key compatible)" my default layout. Ideally the default keyboard layout should be determined by my choice during the Ubuntu installation process. If this is too hard to implement for some reason, I'd like to suggest that "Korean (101/104 key compatible)" should be the default since more than 90% of keyboards on the market are kr104 "Korean (101/104 key compatible)", and you can use kr106 "Korean" keyboard even if the system default is kr104 "Korean (101/104 key compatible)". Thank you. $ diff kr kr.orig 1c1 < alphanumeric_keys --- > default alphanumeric_keys 8c8 < default alphanumeric_keys --- > alphanumeric_keys ** Affects: xkb-data-legacy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Greetings, While installing Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (I'm pretty sure that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has the same bug), I chose kr104 i.e. "Korean (101/104 key compatible)" as my keyboard.
