I would also like to add that my BIOS is from the year 2019, so I do not think it is outdated. My BIOS is as follows: APTIO SETUP UTILITY 2.20.1270. I have also enabled the TOUCHPAD option in the BIOS which was disabled (attachment). And the TOUCHPAD still doesn't work on (K) Ubuntu. I suppose if it were a hardware failure it wouldn't work on Windows either. Ian Hand, does TOUCHPAD work for you on Windows? It would be interesting to know to find out if the same thing happens to me and to find out if it is a hardware or software failure.
