Often, when I close the lid to sleep this laptop it suspends normally.
When opening the lid, the desktop shows up and I cannot interact with it
and the login screen never appears.
Sometimes I close it again to suspend and then reopening will offer the
login screen, but usually I have to to to a virtual tty and shut it
down/restart it.
