Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Release: 20.04
Codename: focal
4GB RAM, AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor, ASUS M4N78 Pro motherboard,
nvidia geforce 210 vga, Samsung SSDs
Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop freezes a couple of times per day, likely memory
consumption and management related.
Same system using Windows 10 is stable and never freezes.
Is there any way i could run Ubuntu 20 in 4GB ram?
It happens, when it decides to. For example, editing images in GIMP won't
trigger it, but watching images in the default ubuntu image viewer would freeze
it after a couple of image scrolls. Watching mp4 in chrome browser or vlc won't
freeze it, but opening a video in totem and scrolling around would freeze it...
During startup if one tries to open nautilus too early before the system
settles down, it would freeze...
I haven't noticed anything peculiar logged in dmesg or syslog.
snapcraft applications like dbeaver tend to freeze the system.
I am running one application at a time, not all at once, just so i save
the ram.
Tried adding zram swap but it didn't help.
Is there anything i could do to make this works as well as Windows 10
that doesn't even flinch?
If not, then perhaps the Ubuntu 20 minimum requirements of 4GB ram
should be set to like 8GB in the documentation.
