Public bug reported: mysql upgrade makes system unusable as it breaks apt. unattended upgrade hangs. You cannot run apt-get install. After rebooting, system is still broken. You can't even remove mysql-server as it tries to resume the install. I did not even install mysql, it was autoinstalled. Was finally able to use "sudo dpkg --remove mysql-server-5.7 default- mysql-server" to remove it.
