Public bug reported:
Only part of built in 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller that works is
green front speakers output.
Line-In and Mic will play through speakers, but not get recorded. In any
recording app, using ALSA, OSS, ESD, Pulse or owt else.
The extra outputs for side, rear, subwoofer etc do not appear to work.
I've adjusted the volume, settings, drivers, preferences and options until the
cows came home (and long after too). Not a whisper of real music.
What we do get is a horrid metallic buzzing in Audacity when using ALSA and
silence for all else.
Yes my speakers are on.
Yes they work. I can play music through any speakers plugged into the green
socket.
I have checked and tried different line in cables, no difference.
I also get the same problem with add-in sound cards. E.G. an old Creative
CT4810, same results.
Somebody has written these drivers in a hurry, and only provided stereo
playback as a result.
