I can't confirm whether blacklisting the simpledrm driver fixes this, because it very definitely breaks the system boot. I'm using whole-disk encryption and blacklisting this driver leaves it unable to ask me for the encryption key to unlock the root partition.
Presumably there is a way to use the nvidia driver to do this.
