I installed the 3.5.2-3 ksmbd-tools from Oracular and while it installs, it shows the same issue as Bernard saw - it expects the ksmbd.conf in /usr/local/etc/ksmbd, instead of /etc/ksmbd.
Also, it doesn't install the sample conf file, and since the name and some of the options have changed since Jammy, this may lead to even more confusion.
