Any ideas folks?

** Description changed:

I've just tried the Nvidia-560 driver for the first time and am seeing
- very poor performance in Wayland sessions.
+ very poor performance in Wayland sessions. Just tapping the Super key I
+ can see animations stuttering.

In 'NVIDIA Settings' it looks like the reason might be a lack of power
profiles ("Performance Levels"). Those are only reported correctly if I
log into Xorg. And indeed performance in Xorg sessions is much higher,
more like what I would expect.
+
+ P.S. Performance on this machine is much worse in upstream GNOME without
+ triple buffering. So triple buffering is doing its job.
