Public bug reported:
When I bought my first Helix 2 (lenovo), all functionalities were supported,
including video via the docking station "Think Pad USB 3.0 Pro Dock" (40A7)
under kubuntu 18.04.
Since then, per each next LTS, support has become less and less. It started
with changes in mesa, combined with evdi, that made any video display over the
said dock impossible. With the update to 22.04, grub failed to be supported by
not allowing any more choice of installed operating systems. With 24.04
finally, start, stop, reboot, shutdown are not working properly any longer.
Once a day the system shut down on their own, sudo reboot results in poweroff,
from which a normal on/off doesn't lead to a reboot, respectively the systems
(I have a multitude) do not shut off any longer, but show the (boot/uefi) logo
"lenovo" for eternity.
The systems are almost unusable with 24.04.1. They show almost identical
symptoms, one updated from 22.04, one fresh install. All systems are fully
functional hardware-wise, however, because they all have W10 installed in
parallel. And by booting to W10 ("Enter"->F12->Windows boot manager) all
functions work properly, including video over the 40A7-dock and power
off/reboot.
Over the course of time, I have reported all vanishing functional support with
bug reports. So far, the situation has only gotten worse. From a fully
supported system under 18.04 through the first decline in 20.04, 22.04 and now
24.04, we have unfortunately reached a state that reminds me of the early
stages of Linux in the last decade of the last century.
I don't know what more I could do than writing bug reports? I also can't
exclude errors on my side; though I have always followed diligently the
respective update respective fresh installation guides. I have been almost
exclusively on >Linux since RedHat 5.1, and I am most disappointed that things
have been spiralling down such far and fast, instead of further improving.
