Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/welcome-to-support-and-help/49951, or for
more support options please look at

( I've had to replace at least 4 DVD burners in the last 5 years, as
they're getting old & thus failures occur.. Your details highlight IO
errors which are usually hardware specific; so have you explored this?
If it's a software config; testing your system with 'live' media is
probably what I'd do (live media being run from thumb-drive & not your
optical drive) and see if the IO errors are occurring there, esp. using
a different software-stack to your installed system as its hardware I'd
be testing. Your details don't point to software as currently provided;
support maybe more beneficial to you )
