First, no, Lubuntu and Ubuntu don't use the same installer. There are several flavors that do but not all or even most.
As my understanding goes (and as you sort of see in the linked upstream bug that you copypasta'd to), Calamares' support for LVM is spotty. It works for some cases but not for all of them and not necessarily all of the time. That makes it hard to track down the cause of the bug and thus ultimately hard to fix. Because of this, our particular set up of the installer doesn't include the necessary tools to handle LVM. That said, if you know what you're doing, you can do it manually. There's nothing preventing you from doing that. And it's not coded to destroy anything. It's just not necessarily coded to work perfectly every time in every situation. That said, it's unsupported. YMMV. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2097706 Title: 24.04 & 24.10 installers break LVM, deactivating all vg's, AND can't install into a non-VM partition in the same system, either.
