I ran
WAYLAND_DISPLAY=bogus DISPLAY=:42 /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk
on an Ubuntu 24.04 VM and that resulted in

which is linked to this problem. So I am marking this bug as duplicate
of bug #2006981.
