Before landing this in questling I'd like to see this at least get
accepted and landed upstream (and ideally provided in an official
openvpn release). It sounds like the ask by upstream is to do a git
bisect; since it sounds like you believe this is a regression from 2.5
to 2.6, a git bisection search does seem like the logical next step to
understanding the problem. I've added a link to the upstream bug report
so we'll get pinged when it gets marked fixed.
Meanwhile, I've nominated the series that contain openvpn 2.6.x, since
presumably you're interested in seeing this be SRU'd. It looks like
you've provided much of the necessary material needed for the SRU
paperwork in the upstream bug report, so I think that should be
straightforward once upstream has landed and/or released the fix.
