Public bug reported:
This is for mrtg 2.17.10-3 on jammy, and I had similar symptoms on
focal.
mrtg runs just fine and plots my traffic through ppp0 - the PPPOE
interface for my home connection, until there is an interruption. After
pppoe is reconnected, mrtg starts showing this
WARNING: Can not determine ifNumber for public@localhost:::::2 ref: 'Name'
key: 'ppp0'
ERROR: Target[cider-ppp][_IN_] ' $target->[3]{$mode} ' did not eval into
defined data
ERROR: Target[cider-ppp][_OUT_] ' $target->[3]{$mode} ' did not eval into
defined data
Now a quick snmpwalk will show the unambiguous interface number:
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifNumber.0 = INTEGER: 5
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.1 =
INTEGER: 1
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.2 =
INTEGER: 2
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.3 =
INTEGER: 3
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.47 =
INTEGER: 47
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.48 =
INTEGER: 48
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.1 = STRING:
lo
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.2 = STRING:
enp2s0
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.3 = STRING:
enp3s0
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.47 =
STRING: ppp0
.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifDescr.48 =
STRING: tun0
Why does mrtg have such trouble when it shouldn't?
I have tried specifying the interface by name, by description and even
by type, to no avail :(
