Any news here? I'm using debmirror + local lighttpd to server repos. I
am very much affected by this problem.

My current workaround is to kill apt processes in CLOSE_WAIT state via
cron. But this is not "perfect".

Doesn't extra patching (Adam's patch) of complied code require constant
repackaging to also get Ubuntu changes? Sounds difficult to maintain for
me.
