Clicking Chromium would freeze the entire machine so quickly (after occasionally briefly visible window frame distortions hinting at an issue related to the graphics driver) that /var/log/syslog would capture nothing or just a few rows of ^@s: It took a removal and re-install of that snap package to slow down the next start of Chromium just long enough to display the attached references (and hence point to this bug). Finding a way to persist the workaround at #3 (thanks @nteodosio) is complicated by the fact that Ubuntu Dock does not easily allow users to edit the arguments, and even replicating the file below to their .local directories seems to require non-obvious renaming (please follow up with any better ideas): sudo nano -w /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/chromium_chromium.desktop needs to append --disable-gpu to all Exec rows to prevent these immediately fatal crashes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2122731 Title: When Chromium browser is launched, entire computer freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/2122731/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
