I can't see any explanation yet so it seems likely to be a soft freeze
in the shell itself. Please start by deleting all extra extensions:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
rm -rf extensions
sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extensions
and then log in again. If the freeze occurs after that then please
follow the steps in comment #1 again.
Please also note the exact date and time that a freeze occurs so we can
focus on that region in the logs.
