This is bug 2069564.

There remain a few interesting questions:

1) Why does the update to gdm 46.2-1ubuntu1~24.04.3 matter?
   - As evidenced by drminfo.txt, your machine does not match the Dell SKUs
which would have changed default from Xorg to Wayland;
  - The only other change is that the display initialization may now be a
little bit more delayed, as we properly wait for the kernel to finish hardware
discovery and driver loading. But I cannot find any reason that this would be
connected to the shown error message.

2) Why does auto-login matter?

If you can reproduce again, please check the directory permissions for
/tmp/.X11-unix on a failed log-in (before rebooting; you may for example
switch to another TTY to investigate): `ls -la /tmp/.X11-unix`

I'm going to close this bug as a duplicate. Please add your findings to
bug 2069564.
