I installed "plasma-distro-release-notifier 20241226-0ubuntu2.1" with CLI (dpkg -i ...) after downloading it from Launchpad.
The release notifier told me that "89 days are left" for the upgrade. The number of days never showed up before. After clicking "Update" the update process began to run (is still running atm). No wrapper or symlink needed. So, your fix works.
