Public bug reported:

Our client devices have a pam_mount configuration like this:

<volume user="*" fstype="cifs" server="smb.we.internal"
path="homes/%(USER)" mountpoint="/home/%(USER)/share" />

This works since ages.

During the upgrade to Ubuntu 25.10 (questing), the upgrade process could
not resume, since the package ask for a password:

root@kensi:/home/du# dpkg --configure -a
postgresql-common (282ubuntu1) wird eingerichtet ...
reenter password for pam_mount:

a) it does not resume, if the server is not available or the password is wrong
b) it is not clear, which user's password is requested
c) the password is shown in clear text, if you type your tries

I do not see any reasons why postgresql-common is using pam_mount, nor
why it insists on it. Even though the root user has no account on the
server.
