Public bug reported:
Title: Missing firmware for MediaTek MT7902 Wi-Fi chipset (PCI ID
14c3:7902)
Description:
I am using an ASUS Vivobook laptop which contains a MediaTek MT7902 Wi-Fi
chipset.
Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS does not currently include the required firmware files:
- /lib/firmware/mt7902.bin
- /lib/firmware/mt7902_rom_patch.bin
Because of this, the Wi-Fi interface does not appear in Ubuntu
(`iwconfig` shows "no wireless extensions").
Hardware details:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: MEDIATEK Corp. Device [14c3:7902]
Subsystem: AzureWave Device [1a3b:5520]
Expected result:
Ubuntu should include the correct firmware for MT7902 in the `linux-firmware`
package so that Wi-Fi works out of the box.
Suggested action:
Please request MediaTek to release or upstream the necessary firmware
(mt7902.bin and mt7902_rom_patch.bin) to the Linux-firmware repository and
include it in future Ubuntu updates.
