Public bug reported:
After a clean install of Ubuntu 25.04, sound output works only for a
limited time, and then continuous static is heard (mixed with app's
sound).
For example, I can watch a Youtube video and everything is fine at
first; after 10 minutes to maybe an hour, the static suddenly starts and
is thereafter present whenever sound is being output.
The behavior is as if a buffer somewhere is slowly growing and when it
becomes full the static noise appears; however stopping sound output
does not empty the buffer right away, it seems to take a long time for
the problem to "cure" itself (like sitting overnight).
My speakers are in my monitor, connected via HDMI.
The hardware is old but not wimpy (6/12 core i7-8700K cpu, 16MB ram, M.2
SSD).
-----
Nothing like this occurred with 24.04 LTS. Audio worked will with the
same exact hardware. Something in 25.04 is causing this new problem.
Note: I did a clean install of 25.04 to a new root partition (did not
upgrade the OS in place). My /home partition was carried over.
