Hi Simon Poirier, I come back with an update.
What I observed: - The RDP service (gnome-remote-desktop.service) requires a username and password for authentication – the credentials are not tied to the local Ubuntu user, but to the credentials that you **must** specify in Settings → Remote Desktop → Desktop Sharing/Remote Login. I verified this both from Windows to Ubuntu and also from Ubuntu to Ubuntu. - The Gnome UI and the online help does not currently indicate that these fields are mandatory, so users can enable remote‑desktop without filling them in, which leads to connection failures on Windows RDP or Remmina. My recommendation: - Documentation – It will help future users by adding a clear note in the “Share your desktop” section (both online - https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/sharing-desktop.html.en - and the help file) stating that a username and password are required for RDP connections. - UI validation – It will help future users by adding a simple validation check that warns the user to supply both fields, otherwise the connection will not work. Perhaps highlight the fields red with a tooltip indicating the problem. - Nice to have, but not required – The ability to take over a logged‑in session (like Windows Remote Desktop’s “Take Over” mode) is not currently supported. If it is not a problem with the Linux session architecture, and easy to solve, it would be very useful for users like me. If the request is out of scope, I can open a separate discussion to evaluate the feasibility of adding a “remote‑takeover” option in a future release. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2089611 Title: RDP into Ubuntu 24.04 results in a blank screen with no response via keyboard or mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-remote-desktop/+bug/2089611/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
