Public bug reported:
On a dual-boot Ubuntu 24/Windows 7/10/11 laptop, rebooting from any
recent version of Windows into Ubuntu 24 doesn't initialise the cabled
ethernet hardware properly, and the network is unavailable. However, if
in Windows 'Shut down' rather than 'Reboot' is chosen, so the the
laptopn is actually shut down, then on the next boot there is no network
problem in Ubuntu 24. In summary:
Ubuntu 24 reboot into Ubuntu 24: No change, if network working before
the reboot, then still is after the reboot, if not working before the
reboot, then still not working after the reboot.
Ubuntu 24 reboot into Winodws: No problem with cabled ethernet in
Windows even if not previously working in Ubuntu 24.
Windows reboot into Ubuntu 24: Cabled ethernet not working, further details
appended.
Windows shutfdown PC, then launch Ubuntu 24: Cabled ethernet working fine.
Windows reboot into a different or same version Windows: No cabled
ethernet problems at all.
Hardware: At least 4 different Dell Precision M6700/M6800 laptops,
dual-booting into Ubuntu 24, Windows 7 32 or 64 Bit, Windows 10, Windows 11.
Note that only 3 of the laptops have the same cabled ethernet hardware, so
there are 2 different sets of cabled ethernet hardware involved, both showing
the same problem: Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM, and Intel 82579LM Gigabit
Network Connection.
