Public bug reported:
After upgrading Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) HWE kernel to 6.14.0-36-generic,
all networking stopped working. Neither Ethernet nor Wi-Fi interfaces
appeared. Booting the previous kernel (6.14.0-35-generic) restores
networking immediately, so this looks like a regression in the 6.14.0-36
HWE kernel packaging.
Steps to reproduce:
Update to kernel 6.14.0-36-generic (HWE) via normal upgrades.
Reboot into 6.14.0-36-generic.
Check networking (ip link, NetworkManager GUI). No network devices are
present / no interfaces beyond loopback.
Expected result:
Ethernet/Wi-Fi interfaces are detected and usable after reboot.
Actual result:
No network interfaces are detected under 6.14.0-36-generic. ip link shows only
lo. Network is fully unavailable.
Regression:
Yes. Kernel 6.14.0-35-generic works correctly on the same system.
Workaround / Fix:
Boot into the previous kernel where networking works, then manually install the
missing extra modules for the new kernel:
