Public security bug reported:
Description:
Hi Ubuntu Desktop and Debian Input Method Team,
I’m writing to request an update of the ibus-libpinyin package in the
Ubuntu repositories to the latest upstream version, 1.16.5.
The currently shipped version (check with apt-cache policy ibus-
libpinyin) suffers from several persistent bugs that severely affect the
daily input experience for Chinese users. These issues are widely
reported in the community and include:
1. Input Method Switches Causing Freezes/Hangs: Frequently, switching
between Chinese and English input modes (e.g., using Ctrl+Space) causes
the input process (ibus-engine-libpinyin) to freeze or
crash[citation:2][citation:4]. This often requires killing the process
or restarting applications. Similar crash reports (SIGSEGV, SIGABRT) are
documented in other distributions[citation:2][citation:4].
2. Text Commit Failures: Typed pinyin sometimes fails to convert to
Chinese characters or commits the text to the application, especially in
specific software like web browsers or IDEs.
3. Unreliable User Dictionary/Cloud Sync: The user’s learned words and
personalized dictionary are not reliably saved or synced to the local
machine[citation:1]. This forces the input method to depend on an internet
connection for basic predictions and defeats the purpose of personalization.
There are known assertion failures related to user data storage[citation:1].
Upstream version 1.16.5 likely contains numerous fixes and improvements for
these core stability and functionality issues. Keeping this essential input
method updated will greatly improve the usability of Ubuntu for a significant
number of Chinese-speaking users.
Could you please evaluate and process an update to ibus-libpinyin 1.16.5
for current Ubuntu releases (especially the LTS versions)?
Thank you for your work.
