Public bug reported:
When switching user in Ubuntu gnome session, a popup appears on the GDM greeter
screen asking a password "Authentication needed to change user data". The
request can be cancelled or password can be provided, there is no difference.
But when just waiting, the computer freezes after a while.
I had the problem since 25.10 on a Ubuntu upgraded over the years. As I
couldn't fix the problem I have finally reinstalled from scratch, but the
problem is still there.
The issue maybe related to polkit. When providing the password and reloging in
the session, the following line appears in the logs :
polkitd[1235]: Operator of unix-session:c4 successfully authenticated as
unix-user:pascal to gain TEMPORARY authorization for action
org.freedesktop.accounts.user-administration for system-bus-name::1.587
[/usr/libexec/gsd-xsettings] (owned by unix-user:gdm-greeter)
