f) longer discussion about rocm suffix in binaries, and other naming issues[1]
(hard to paste here without rich text format support) Cory Bloor The binaries should not be available in /usr/bin at all, except _maybe_ `/usr/bin/amdclang` and `/usr/bin/amdclang++`. I'm uncertain about /usr/lib. doko having a partial prefix and a (partial?) suffix is just hodgepodge. If you look at any other versioned package besides llvm, you'll have an /usr/lib/FOO/bin with only unprefixed and unsuffixed binaries. e.g. postgresql-NN, openjdk-NN, and only suffixed binaries in /usr/bin. What does your documentation say? how are users supposed to call that? I see that you want to differentiate from the llvm-NN packaging, but pretty please be consistent. all unprefixed, all prefixed, and all suffixed, if you see that necessary. but not a mix, and not partial Cory Bloor amdclang is the binary name that upstream uses to distinguish their fork from the vanilla clang. Cory Bloor It's a little inconsistent to have clang-rocm provide amdclang, but I think it's probably the best option to minimize the number of new names for things. doko and still keep -20 as a suffix? or just -rocm? Cory Bloor Oh. Or do you just mean that it should be a separate package to provide the unprefixed binary name? I feel like I might have misunderstood. s/unprefixed/unsuffixed/ ...or, it might be better to simply resolve that discussion by not shipping anything at all in /usr/bin for the moment. I think that's what Andreas was already doing anyway... doko no, I was referring to /usr/lib/FOO/bin as written above. There you have the -20 suffix, maybe the -rocm suffix, and now the amd prefix. we didn't even start talking about /usr/bin 1. https://matrix.to/#/!HIqUfDuodVisBWdrTr:ubuntu.com/$BRu2g27ze0aoqdzPA7NzGQzqMZXof2Eskcb5vfkni5s?via=ubuntu.com&via=matrix.org&via=matrix.debian.social -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2133814 Title: NEW package request: llvm-toolchain-rocm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2133814/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
