i cannot confirm that "alsamixergui" and "alsamixer" use a different
default soundcard (these days, both show the virtual "pipewire" as the
default soundcard).

the behaviour is consistent with running `alsamixergui -D default` (or 
`alsamixer -D default`), where the (virtual) `default` device is as reported by 
`aplay`:
```
$ aplay -L
[...]
default
    Default ALSA Output (currently PipeWire Media Server)
[...]
```


so i do not think that there is an actual problem.
(of course you could always wish for another soundcard to be opened by default, 
but that becomes quickly very opinionated)
