I applied workaround 1, which worked, but Ubuntu Software does not seem to start anymore, not sure if related. So it's a change in gdm3 that requires a systemd upgrade ? It's a bit unclear what the issue is.
For the ones that switched to lightdm and want to switch back but missed the command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 Then choose gdm3 and reboot.
